periphery

Peripherien

A lecture held by Shannon Mattern at transmediale/ 2023 on the topic of redaction (in general and as a way of artistic expression) inspired this project.
When do I define something as "peripheral"? A manmade object, not derelict, but not necessarily brand new either. From very tiny to very big. You can walk by it every day but may not perceive it at all. It just sits there and does its job, so to speak.
Any ruinous structure may catch our eye due to its dramatic decay. So does anything that is shiny and new. A periphery may be a disruptive element in its preferably natural surrounding (in an urban setting anything and nothing at all can be peripheral), still your mind blanks it out, redacts it, renders it overlooked.
Here I do the exact opposite. I blank out the surroundings and put the overlooked object(s) into the limelight. The only difficulty is to find them and above all to find the good ones. They are very elusive!
